Calligraphy,byJiang Dongshu - Jiang Dongshu (1923–2008), courtesy name Wenzao and art name Dongpo Shidu (Attendant Reader of Dongpo), was a native of Lishui, Zhejiang. A renowned contemporary calligrapher and scholar, he excelled in multiple script styles, with particular mastery in regular script (kaishu) and clerical script (lishu). His regular script drew inspiration from Jin and Tang dynasty masters such as Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan, while also incorporating the charm of Northern Wei stele inscriptions. His style is dignified and substantial yet retains a sense of vitality, with rigorously structured characters that brim with life. In clerical script, he traced back to the essence of Han dynasty lishu, infusing it with his personal understanding to create a powerful, robust brushwork and an archaic, classical spirit. Additionally, his running script (xingshu) is free-flowing and graceful, and his cursive script (caoshu) is unrestrained and bold. Together, these styles reflect his profound traditional foundation and unique artistic personality.
