Landscape (Four Hanging Scrolls),by Pu Quan, Pu Zhuo, Pu Ru, Pu Ru - The four members of the Aisin Gioro family, Pu Quan, Pu Zuo, Pu Yi, and Pu Ru, are considered the representative figures of Chinese painting and calligraphy from the late Qing royal Pu family. Together, they are known as the ”Four Pus.” Below are brief introductions to each of them: Pu Quan (1913–1991): Known by the courtesy name Songchuang and the pen name Xuexi, Pu Quan was a descendant of the Manchu Qing royal family and a renowned painter and calligrapher in modern China. He was a painter at the Beijing Painting Academy and a member of both the Chinese Artists Association and the Chinese Calligraphers Association. He was the great-great-grandson of the Daoguang Emperor and was part of the ”Four Talents of the Pu Family,” alongside his brothers Pu Yi, Pu Zuo, and Pu Ru. His works include Flower and Bird Painting Models. Pu Zuo (1918–2001): A Manchu artist and the cousin of Puyi, the last emperor of China. Pu Zuo was a distinguished member of the Chinese Painting Research Society and was known as one of the ”Eight Great Masters of Tianjin” alongside figures like Sun Qifeng. He specialized in painting horses and was well-known for his Pu Zuo Painting Collection. Pu Yi (1893–1966): A modern well-known calligrapher and painter, Pu Yi was one of the main founders of the ”Songfeng Painting Society” and was part of the ”Three Talents of the Pu Family” along with his brothers Pu Quan and Pu Zuo. He excelled in landscape and horse paintings and was greatly influenced by the ”Two Wang” style in calligraphy. His works have been collected by museums and art galleries worldwide. Pu Ru (1896–1963): Known by the courtesy name Xinshi and the pseudonym Xishan Yishi, Pu Ru was a renowned calligrapher, painter, and collector in modern China. He was often compared to Zhang Daqian in the south and was called ”Zhang of the South, Pu of the North.” Pu Ru was also renowned for his artistic mastery alongside Wu Hufan and was regarded as one of the ”Four Masters of the Republic of China” with Jin Cheng, Zhang Daqian, and Chen Shaomei. His expertise spanned poetry, calligraphy, painting, and more, with significant achievements in landscapes, flowers, birds, and calligraphy.
