Orchid and Stone,by Li Xiongcai - Li Xiong Cai (May 15, 1910 – December 19, 2001) was born in Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province, with ancestral roots in Gaoyao, Guangdong. He graduated from the Guangzhou Lie Feng Art School and was a prominent figure in contemporary Chinese traditional painting and art education, representing the Lingnan School of Painting. In 1926, Li studied under Gao Jianfu and, the following year, joined the Chunshui Academy of Painting. In 1932, he went to Japan to study at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. After returning to China, he taught at various universities, eventually serving as a professor and vice president of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. He was also a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Li was known for his large-scale landscape paintings and was skilled in painting flowers, birds, and insects. His works were noted for their grandiose and distinctive style. He revolutionized traditional landscape painting by altering the conventional half-face treatment of color and using a gradual shading technique. His style became known as ”Li's Landscape Painting.”
