1917, by Wu Changshuo, Seal Script Calligraphy of the Stone Drums - Wu Changshuo (1844–1927), originally named Jun, with courtesy name Changshuo and alternative art names such as Foulu and Kutie, was a native of Anji, Zhejiang Province. He excelled in painting, calligraphy, and seal carving. His seal script drew inspiration from the Stone Drum Inscriptions, characterized by its vigorous and rustic grandeur. In painting, he specialized in bird-and-flower subjects, incorporating seal script techniques into his brushwork to create a style that was both bold and richly colored. He was a leading figure of the Shanghai School of painting. His seal carving blended Han Dynasty seal styles with ancient script forms, achieving a weathered, archaic simplicity. With numerous disciples, Wu exerted a profound and lasting influence on modern Chinese art, making exceptional contributions to its development.
