Longevity,by Tongzhi Emperor - Emperor Tongzhi (1856–1875), born Aisin-Gioro Zaichun, was the tenth emperor of the Qing Dynasty, reigning under the era name Tongzhi. His rule was largely dominated by the regency of the Empress Dowagers Cixi and Ci’an, a period historically termed the ”Tongzhi Restoration”. Tongzhi ascended the throne as a child and died young, leaving few records of personal artistic activities. However, during his short reign, artistic traditions within the Qing court were maintained. Court painting and craftsmanship continued, with ceramics produced for occasions such as the imperial wedding—known as “Tongzhi Wedding Porcelain”—featuring festive and auspicious decorations reflective of the era. Due to the gradual decline of the dynasty, court artistry during this period showed less innovation than in previous reigns, largely adhering to established conventions.
