Hanging Scroll:Landscape byWen Zhengming ,Ming Dynasty - Wen Zhengming (1470–1559), also known by his art name Hengshan Jushi, was a native of Changzhou (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu Province). He was one of the ”Four Masters of Wu” and one of the ”Four Great Talents of Jiangnan.” Excelling in landscape painting, his works are often categorized into ”detailed Wen” (meticulously refined and elegant) and ”bold Wen” (vigorous and unrestrained). He was also skilled in bird-and-flower painting. In calligraphy, he mastered small regular script with precision and grace, while his running script was free and natural. Among his representative works are The Thatched Hut of True Appreciation and Ode to the Lute. With numerous disciples, Wen Zhengming stands as a defining figure of Ming Dynasty literati art.
