Landscape,by Xie Shichen - Xie Shichen (also known as Xie Sizhong, Chu Xian) was a renowned Ming Dynasty painter, born in Changzhou (modern-day Suzhou, Jiangsu Province). He was active during the first half of the 16th century and lived to the age of 81. In addition to being skilled in poetry, he was a proficient calligrapher and excelled in seal script. As a landscape artist, Xie Shichen was heavily influenced by Wu Zhen and Shen Zhou, two leading figures of the Wu School. He introduced slight changes to their style while blending elements from both the Zhe School and Wu School. His unique painting style is marked by bold brushstrokes, light and subtle use of color, and the occasional use of figures in his landscapes, which added a graceful and harmonious quality to his works. He was particularly celebrated for his water scenes, such as rivers, lakes, and seas, which were considered masterpieces of the genre. His works were described as having a sense of gutsiness and were noted for their expansive and fluid nature. Art critics remarked that his compositions, particularly his long-scroll landscapes with towering peaks, flowed with a natural, uninhibited energy, with an ability to capture the grandiosity of nature with ease and mastery.
