12th Century Goryeo Celadon Incised Floral Long-Necked Vase - An exquisitely proportioned celadon vase from the golden age of the Goryeo Dynasty. The vessel features a flared rim above a slender, tapering neck that flows elegantly into a pendant globular body, all supported by a neatly finished ring foot. The vase is enveloped in a quintessential ”kingfisher” (beisaek) celadon glaze—a lustrous, translucent sea-green hue that achieved legendary status in the 12th century. The body is masterfully incised with fluid floral motifs; the carving is subtle and ethereal, revealing itself only upon close inspection beneath the thick glaze. This understated decorative technique epitomizes the sophisticated and poetic sensibilities of the Goryeo aristocracy. The surface is further enriched by a fine network of natural crackles, reminiscent of shattered ice. Standing 28.5 cm tall, this vase is a superb survival of Goryeo ceramic artistry. It is preserved in its original Japanese wooden collector's box (tomobako), testifying to its long-standing appreciation and careful provenance.
