12th Century Goryeo Inlaid Celadon 'Cloud and Crane' Meiping - Exquisitely crafted during the 12th century, the golden age of Koryo ceramics, this long-necked vase exemplifies the celebrated ”kingfisher” celadon aesthetic. The vessel features a tall, elegantly flared neck transitioning into a plump, pear-shaped body supported by a short ring foot. It is enveloped in a translucent celadon glaze of a refined bluish-green hue, characterized by a fine network of natural crackles. The decoration is masterfully understated. The neck is encircled by faint horizontal bow-string lines, while the main body is delicately embellished with shallow incised floral motifs—possibly lotuses—that reveal their fluid lines only under directed light. The unglazed base shows the characteristic brownish clay body with subtle spur marks from the firing process. Standing at 28.5 cm in height, this vase is accompanied by its original Japanese fitted wooden box, serving as a premier record of Koryo aristocratic elegance and technical virtuosity.
