7th–9th Century: Gandhara Bronze Seated Buddha - Cast entirely from fine bronze, the entire figure exudes a mellow, lustrous quality, cloaked in a rich antique bronze patina with faint verdigris peeking through the weathered surface—imbued with profound traces of time. The Buddha sits in the half-lotus posture: the right leg hangs relaxed, foot resting on a lotus, while the left leg is drawn up onto the seat, embodying ease and composure. The face is plump and rounded, eyes brimming with compassion, nose straight and refined, lips softly curved, radiating serene grace. The tall topknot and jeweled crown are magnificent; necklaces, pendants, armbands and bracelets are exquisitely carved. Each of the six hands holds a sacred ritual implement, arranged in fluid, balanced harmony. Behind the figure stands an openwork radiant mandorla encircled by scrolling foliage, crowned with a stupa, flanked by attendant figures and beast-head motifs—intricate yet orderly in every detail. The lotus throne rests on a tiered plinth adorned with neatly carved key-fret patterns. Masterfully cast, this is a superior example of later Gandhara statuary.
