Song Dynasty, Jian Ware Temmoku Tea Bowl, Base with ”Chou” Ink Inscription Southern Song Dynasty, Black Lacquer Temmoku Stand - The bowl curves gracefully inward to a dark iron foot, its rim elegantly mounted in metal. Glaze deepens from warm russet and honey-amber at the lip to rich obsidian black, streaked with countless fine, straight “hare’s-fur” lines—like a river of stars cascading downward, shimmering faintly with silvery-blue iridescence. The iron body exposed at the foot is dense and dark; inside the base, the single character “Zhou” is written in ink—an ancient, rare mark. Beneath rests its matching lacquer stand, gleaming in deep, mirror-black lacquer. Wide and shallow, rising to a rounded, well-formed socket; foot steady and sure. Plain, quiet, and serene—its pure blackness answers perfectly to the bowl’s dark glaze above. One in tone, one in spirit—rich yet restrained, magnificent yet calm. Together they embody the refined, understated taste of Southern Song tea culture. The ink inscription makes this an exceptionally rare and precious treasure.
