Bidspirit auction | Song Dynasty, Hutian Ware Qingbai

Song Dynasty, Hutian Ware Qingbai Glazed Bowl - This bowl features a flared, slightly everted rim, deep curved sides tapering downward, and a small foot ring. The overall silhouette is streamlined and graceful with harmonious proportions. The entire vessel is covered in a lustrous qingbai (bluish-white) glaze, characteristically translucent and jade-like with a cool bluish tint emerging from the white—typical of Hutian ware's celebrated ”yingqing” tone. The glaze surface is glossy and bright with a strong vitreous quality; the body is notably thin, exhibiting excellent translucency when held to the light. The glaze thins at the rim to reveal a pale greyish-white clay body, creating a light-colored edge band, while the unglazed foot ring exposes a fine, white, compact clay body with traces of kiln-support firing. Completely devoid of carved or incised decoration on both interior and exterior, the piece achieves its beauty through the purity of its glaze and the refinement of its form, fully embodying the Hutian kiln's ethereal aesthetic of ”jade-like skin on a pure white bone.
