Bidspirit auction | Yuan Dynasty, Peacock Blue Glazed

Yuan Dynasty, Peacock Blue Glazed Floral-Rimmed Vase - This vase presents an elegant, upright silhouette. The mouth rim is fashioned into a lobed, floral form of five gently upturned petals, its undulating contour resembling a blooming flower and lending the piece a lively, lyrical grace. The slender neck is encircled by several raised horizontal fillets, which lend vertical emphasis while echoing the floral motif of the mouth. The shoulders are full and rounded, leading to an ovoid, slightly swollen body supported by a ring foot with the unglazed foot rim revealing a greyish-brown, compact clay body. The belly is divided by evenly spaced vertical raised ribs running from shoulder to near the foot, creating a lobed, melon-shaped profile. These ridges catch the light to produce subtle shifts between highlight and shadow, generating a rich three-dimensional rhythm. The entire vessel is covered in a brilliant peacock-blue glaze of vivid turquoise-green, with a lustrous surface marked by fine crackles and natural weathering patina. The glaze varies in thickness: it runs thinner over the raised ridges, appearing lighter in tone, while pooling thicker in the recessed grooves to produce deeper, more saturated coloration. This interplay of light and dark enhances the vessel's archaic character. The horizontal neck rings and vertical belly ribs emerge subtly through the glaze, and the overall proportions are tall and graceful with flowing lines, combining stateliness with refined elegance—a testament to the Yuan Dynasty's mastery of merging boldness with vitality in glazed ceramic forms.
