Shang Dynasty, Bronze Jue Cup - A long, gracefully tapering spout extends forward, balanced by a sharp, upturned tail behind. Two slender columns capped with mushroom-shaped knobs rise evenly from the rim between spout and tail. The body deepens smoothly from a slightly constricted mouth, with a robust loop handle on one side; three sharp, blade-like legs splay firmly in tripod formation, lending both stability and elegant poise. A band of symmetrical zoomorphic scrollwork encircles the upper belly—crisp, rhythmic, and commanding in its restraint. The bronze is enveloped in rich, layered patina of deep emerald and sea-green, softly burnished where light catches, deepening to warm chestnut in the hollows—aged, luminous, and jewel-like in depth. Proportions are perfectly balanced, every curve and angle answering one another in harmonious counterpoint: formal, dignified, and superbly expressive of the ritual bronze aesthetic of the Shang dynasty.
