Bidspirit auction | Studio Seal of Aisin-Gioro Yixuan,

Studio Seal of Aisin-Gioro Yixuan, from the Collection of Jiusitang Hall - The seal’s surface is delicately carved throughout with a serene landscape: distant peaks rise in soft blue haze, veiled in drifting clouds; nearby trees flourish, their branches gracefully curved; a bird glides lightly, as if its song can almost be heard; fine rocks stand in open arrangement, composing a world of calm and harmony. The carving is light and fluid, avoiding deep incision; the boyi shallow-relief technique condenses the spirit of a landscape painting within inches — uncluttered, pure, and free of all worldly dust. In raised relief on the side, the hall name “Nine Reflections Hall” (Jiusi Tang) is inscribed in dignified, solid characters — unadorned yet composed, harmonizing with the stone’s hue and texture like a mirror reflecting the heart, tranquil and self-possessed. “Nine Reflections” derives from The Analects · Jishi: “The noble person has nine reflections: in seeing, seek clarity; in hearing, seek discernment; in countenance, seek warmth; in bearing, seek reverence; in speech, seek sincerity; in service, seek respect; in doubt, seek inquiry; in anger, seek consequence; in gain, seek righteousness.” These three words stand as the standard for self-cultivation, the precept for managing the family, and the rule for conducting public life.
