Qianlong Period, Qing Dynasty — A Gilt-Bronze Chased Ground Paste-Inset 'Shou' Character Jar and Cover - An imperial masterpiece of the Qianlong reign, richly gilded and superbly wrought. The vase has a well-proportioned body, with a jeweled finial atop the cover carved with swirling clouds. Two lion-head handles with suspended rings flank the shoulder, powerful and symmetrical. The belly features a central shou longevity medallion inlaid with coloured stones within a key-fret border, beneath a bat-and-emblem motif representing “blessings and longevity”. The ground is finely chased with endless-wan symbol and lotus-leaf patterns, symbolizing eternal prosperity. Every detail—from chasing to inlay—is executed with supreme precision. Sumptuous yet balanced, opulent yet refined, this vessel embodies the zenith of Qianlong craftsmanship: imperial authority, auspicious symbolism, and technical mastery in perfect harmony. A rare and magnificent palace treasure.
