Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Period: Turquoise-Ground Famille-Rose and Gilt 'Bat and Longevity' Begonia-Shaped Box and Cover - Fashioned in the form of a crabapple blossom, the box and lid unfold like an opening flower, their rims rippled in graceful, undulating folds. Lines flow smoothly and elegantly; the fitting is tight and precise, the body broad and shallow, with softly rounded angles — dignified and generous in presence. The entire piece is glazed in an even, soft turquoise, pure and luminous as natural jade. At the lid’s centre, a blue “Longevity” character in underglaze blue is encircled by a pair of full-blooming lotuses whose winding vines connect in endless return; four painted bats spread symmetric wings, symbolizing “Blessing and Longevity in Unity.” All motifs are outlined in gilded tracery, harmonizing with vibrant red, blue, pink, and yellow enamels — opulent yet refined. Sides are divided into panels of composite floral blooms, layered and distinct, echoing the lid in seamless continuity. Interior and foot share the turquoise glaze; the base bears a gilded seal-script mark: “Made in the Qianlong Reign of the Great Qing Dynasty”, neatly and precisely inscribed. Exquisitely wrought and richly composed, the piece embodies the sumptuous elegance of imperial Qianlong ware.
