Qing Dynasty, Kangxi Period: Large Blue-Ground Green-Enamelled 'Dragon among Clouds' Dish - This large, perfectly rounded dish features a flared rim, gently curved shallow walls, and a broad, level centre resting on a solid foot — expansive, poised, and grand in conception. The piece is glazed throughout in vivid sapphire blue, deep and luminous as sky or deep ocean, set against which rich emerald-green enamel creates a striking contrast. At the centre, a five-clawed dragon coils powerfully, scales sharply defined, manes streaming, eyes ablaze, soaring amid auspicious clouds in majestic momentum. Four further dragons encircle the interior, each occupying a cardinal direction, pursuing flaming pearls in varied, dynamic poses. The exterior repeats the motif in continuous procession, dragons interspersed with racing clouds, rendered in fluid, vigorous strokes. A crisp white rim frames the design; the base bears a fine white glaze inscribed within a double blue ring with the bold, firm-charactered reign mark: “Kangxi Period of the Great Qing Dynasty”.
