Bidspirit auction | Song Dynasty, Celadon Plate

Song Dynasty, Celadon Plate - With a broad, gently flared rim and thin, delicate walls, the dish tapers smoothly inward to a shallow, softly curved centre, supported by a neatly proportioned short foot ring. Exposed body clay at the foot rim reveals a fine, dense texture. The overall form is clean and elegant, balanced and assured in every line. Fully coated in celadon glaze of even, mellow tone — pale green with subtle milky undertones — the surface possesses a subdued, gentle luster reminiscent of congealed fat or uncarved jade. The glaze is smooth and pristine, marked by a fine, delicate network of crazing that lends quiet antique charm. Plain and unadorned both inside and out, the piece triumphs through luminous glaze and graceful silhouette alone. The glaze thins slightly at the rim, forming a faint pale margin that frames the celadon; the unglazed foot is clean and sharply finished in a steady, earthy hue.
