Palestine 1/4 Piastre Token - Breisch & Company, AE 1/4 Piastre Token (2.27g), Haffner-CC-14B, B. & C. // 1/4; for use at the Jewish settlements in Palestine; struck circa 1880s or 1890s, probably in Germany, withdrawn circa 1918, VF, RRR. Breisch & Co. was an important trading house in Jaffa. This type was followed by an issue for B. & G. (Breisch & Gesellschaft) that has a 5-spoke gear below the initials (an example sold by Heritage in the Long Beach Sale 357 in 2004 shows the same reverse die as the Breisch & Co. 1/4 piastre token). The reason for the change is unknown.
