Austria Ducat 1890. NGC MS 61 PL - KM-2267; Emperor Francis Joseph I (1848-1916); Gold (.986), 3.49 g, 20 mm; Mintage: 373.860; Proof-Like. A stunning example of the ”Laureate Head” gold coinage. The obverse features the mature portrait of Emperor Francis Joseph I facing right, wearing a laurel wreath. The reverse displays the magnificent crowned Imperial Double-Headed Eagle of the Habsburg Monarchy, holding the traditional sword, scepter, and orb. The Proof-Like surfaces indicate this coin was struck using freshly polished dies, resulting in a mirror-like field. Mint State 61 Proof-Like! This is a visually striking survivor.
