Austria Ducat 1866 E. NGC MS 62 - KM-2265, Fr-236; Emperor Francis Joseph I (1848-1916); Gold (.986), 3.49 g, 19.8 mm; Mintage: 373.345; Karlsburg Mint. A beautiful example of the ”Laureate Head” type of Emperor Francis Joseph I. The obverse features the young Emperor facing right, wearing a laurel wreath. The reverse displays the crowned Imperial Double-Headed Eagle of the House of Habsburg, holding the sword, scepter, and orb. The 1866-E is a particularly desirable mint mark for collectors of the Austrian provincial mints. Mint State 62! This specimen is a choice uncirculated survivor. It retains a strong, original luster that highlights the deep gold hue of the high-purity alloy.
