Iran Toman AH1265 (1849). NGC AU 53 - A-2921; Shah: Nasir al-Din Shah (1848-1896); Gold (.749). An elegant gold Toman from the second year of Nasir al-Din Shah’s 48-year reign. The obverse features the Shah’s name and titles in flowing Persian calligraphy, while the reverse indicates the mint and the accession date. During this period, Persian gold was vital for high-value commerce along the Silk Road trade routes. About Uncirculated (AU) 53! This specimen is a strong survivor, retaining much of its original luster within the protected areas of the design.
