Austria Salzburg ¼ Thaler 1695. NGC XF 45 - KM-282, Zottl-2197; Prince-archbishop John Ernest of Thun (1667-1709). A well-preserved silver Quarter Thaler representing the spiritual and temporal power of the Salzburg Archbishopric. The obverse features the combined coat of arms of the Archbishop and the See of Salzburg, topped by a cardinal’s hat and a ceremonial sword and crozier. The reverse depicts the patron saints of Salzburg, St. Rupert and St. Virgil, standing together, with the date ”1695” divided at their feet.
