British India 1 Rupee 1840 (C or B). PCGS MS 62 - KM-458.1, S&W-3.33; Queen Victoria (1837-1901); Silver (.917), 11.66 g, 30.5 mm. A beautiful ”Young Head” silver rupee. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of a young Queen Victoria with the legend ”VICTORIA QUEEN” wrapped continuously around the upper half. The reverse mirrors the 1835 design, with ”ONE RUPEE” in English and Persian within a laurel wreath, flanked by ”EAST INDIA COMPANY” and the date 1840. Choice Mint State 62! It is a premium example of the transition from Company rule toward the peak of the British Imperial period in India.
