Pair of Letters Handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Yehudah Greenwald, Av Beit Din of Baja
"... he was a beloved disciple of my father's. Many times I heard much praise about him from my father's sacred lips - he never stopped mentioning his virtues" (the Da'at Sofer)
Beautiful pair of letters, written on both sides of the same leaf, handwritten and signed (twice) by the sacred gaon Rabbi Yehudah Greenwald, av beit din of Baja, Hungary, and the author of Yevo Chaim, among the disciples of the Shevet Sofer of Pressburg and the Yitev Lev of Sighet. Baja, 1917.
* The first letter is addressed to the leaders and administrators of the Tomchei Torah society for Hungarian immigrants to the United States, Rabbi Avraham Tzvi Friedman, Rabbi Leibish Rorgant and others. Rabbi Yehudah Greenwald expresses his gratitude for the receipt of a generous donation for the yeshivah's maintenance, and gives his blessings spiced with sayings from Chaza"l, and a blessing for a good and blessed new year.
* The second letter is specifically to the aforementioned Rabbi Avraham Tzvi "Ish Shalom" Friedman, with a request that he continue his assistance going forward, as well as blessings for the upcoming new year. In addition, the gaon Rabbi Yehudah Greenwald also writes him about sefarim sent to Rabbi Hillel HaKohen Klein, a rabbi of the Hungarian congregation and founder of Kollel Shomrei HaChomot in the United States. The sefarim are a gift for his personal study. He requests that he notify him if the sefarim have not arrived, as he expended a lot to get them to him. [This is probably referring to his sefer, Yavo Chaim, published that year.]
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Yehudah Greenwald, av beit din of Baja.
