She lives and creates in Tzukim at the Arava.  Lisa is a doctor of anthropology from Heidelberg, Utrecht and also studied in Jerusalem. She is self-taught in painting, you must have seen her works in the artists' incubator of the last fresh color fair. ”Painting desert landscapes is part of my personal journey to deepen my roots in my new home in Israel, After I left my homeland, Germany. As a doctor of anthropology I learned to look closely at the world as a complex relationship - the purpose of anthropological work is to understand the system in depth, to know the different and the strange and to shine a new light on the familiar. The same is true in painting, I take apart the landscape, study the parts and the relationships between them and reassemble them. In this process I build understanding and intimacy, get to know these landscapes, which are so different from my childhood landscapes, and make them my own. My paintings show monumental scenes alongside everyday ones. In painting the desert, I pay attention to the nuances: starting with the seasonal changes, the changing sky, the lighting in the passing hours of the day. Lines and connections appear between the stones, the dry bushes, the palm trees, and the shadows on the side of the cliff. I paint in a realistic style to do justice to the wealth of stories that the landscape tells. My artistic experience is part of the observation and documentation process, and even so, I don't want to change the way my eyes look. Through my paintings the desert speaks, conveys its story to the viewer. I love staying in the Arava and Negev, feeling the rough texture of the desert: fascinating geological forms create the most beautiful natural compositions. When I work in the open air, when I walk or drive a jeep deep into the desert, alone, I am not afraid or feel lost, on the contrary, I feel free, calm and peaceful.''
