Asad Azi, Couple in the Field, 2015 - Oil on Canvas  0/0 cm  Signed Back   Prof. Asad Azi Born in Shfaram , he lives in Jaffa . He is the eldest of five brothers, his mother Akbar and his father Sayah, a Druze of Lebanese origin. In 1961 , when he was five years old, his father was killed by a Syrian sniper when he toured a Border Police soldier in the north. Assad attended a Jewish high school in Kiryat Ata . After military service, he studied for a bachelor's degree at the University of Haifa (1980-1976) and a master's degree in the history of art at Tel Aviv University (1980-1981). In the eighties he was a member of the ” Group of Moment ”, an artistic group in the work of works with a cultural load locally and its members David Reeb, Avishai Eyal and Yoram Kupermintz . Since 1987 he has been teaching at Beit Berl Midreshet in 2001Taught at Kay College in Beer Sheva. He also taught at the Meimad School in Tel Aviv (1996-1999), and since 2015 lectures at the University of Haifa. In a newspaper interview, he mentioned the artists who influenced him, among them Mark Rothko , Lucio Fontana , Henry Shelesnyak , Uri Reisman and the icons of Joto. His work is influenced by the question of personal identity , both human and political, based on his identity as an individual and on the polarization of the question of Arabism versus Israeliness and an expression of the cultural-value-stylistic opposition of the East versus the West . His works have been exhibited in many galleries and museums in Israel and abroad .
