Harpers Ferry U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Musket Converted to Percussion - Harpers Ferry U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Musket Converted to Percussion. The Harpers Ferry Musket is in nice used condition. The barrel measures 42 inches in length. The .700 Diameter bore is clear and smooth. The wood stock is in used condition having nicks, cracks, chips and repairs and obtains metal recoil plate. The metal finish is black faded to brown patina with a cracked upper tang. The lower Type II sling swivel is mounted directly to the trigger guard bow and broken, the front is mounted to the middle barrel clamp and is ok. The ramrod is present and removable. Because it features a working action, matching Type II hardware, and clear barrel proofs, it holds great historical value. The side-drum conversion on a smoothbore strongly indicates this gun was rushed into service for the Civil war likely issued to state militia units or utilized by the Confederacy?after they seized the Harpers Ferry Arsenal in 1861.
