Balthus (Balthasar Klossowski de Rola, 1908–2001) - Model in the Studio, 1973. Lithograph on Arches paper, signed in the board Published by Musée Cantini, Marseille Sheet dimensions: approx. 75 × 40.5 cm Composition dimensions: approx. 50 × 40 cm A decorative lithograph based on a composition by Balthus, one of the most distinctive and recognizable painters of the 20th century. Associated with French modernism, the artist created a painterly language based on silence, tension, classical compositional order, and the unique atmosphere of a private interior. The work ”Model in the Studio” captures Balthus's characteristic world: the enclosed space of the studio, the model's calm pose, the decorativeness of the fabrics, furniture, and objects, and the subtle interplay between the everyday and theatrical scene. The color scheme is maintained in warm, pastel tones, with distinct accents of blue, pink, and orange. This copy was printed on fine Arches paper and signed in the board. This is the so-called affiche avant la lettre — a lithographic version without the exhibition text, thanks to which the composition retains a pure, painterly character.
