Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita (1886–1968) - Prostitutes, 1963. Color lithograph on paper Signed in pencil lower right: L. Foujita Marked lower right: E.A. — artist's épreuve d’artiste, artist's print Composition/sheet dimensions: 30.5 × 22.5 cm, 40.5 x 30 cm (with frame) Framed behind glass The composition depicts a boudoir-cabaret scene with four female figures and a champagne table. The work is in keeping with Foujita's characteristic method of constructing figures: delicate contours, sparse colors, and a combination of European themes with a linear sensibility close to Japanese tradition. Foujita, a Japanese-French painter and printmaker, was associated with Paris and the École de Paris from 1913; he gained particular fame for his depictions of women, nudes, children, cats, and scenes with a subtle, decorative style.
