Leon Tarasewicz is one of the most important Polish contemporary painters, an artist of Belarusian origin, a professor of fine arts, and a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Born in 1957 in Waliła, he graduated from the Art High School in Supraśl and then from the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he graduated in 1984 from the studio of Tadeusz Dominik. Tarasiewicz's work focuses on color, rhythm, space, and the experience of landscape. The artist gradually transcended traditional understandings of painting, creating paintings that transcended the canvas—on walls, floors, architecture, and exhibition spaces. He is the recipient of awards including the Polityka Passport, the Jan Cybis Award, the Gloria Artis medal, and the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
