[MUSIC] - “WAGNER’S FIGHT FOR RECOGNITION: THE ANXIETY OVER HIS RIGHTS” - WAGNER Richard - Interesting autograph letter signed, dated “Bayreuth 27 Sept. 1873” by the German composer, dramatist and conductor. Wagner addresses his agent Carl Voltz in Wiesbaden. Written from Bayreuth, where the musician had settled for less than a year and which was to become the Wagnerian musical center forever. Wagner addresses the correspondent to find out precisely how much he is owed for his rights and when he will be able to benefit from them. He is aware of Voltz's financial difficulties and knows that the latter cannot make advances of capital to him for the time being, but he equally demands a clear indication of his rights. The rights in question certainly derive from the result of a trial held in Leipzig and favorable to him and Voltz, and the musician is concerned that they may be lost due to the bad faith of the condemned man. The need to know what he is entitled to by right also derives from the fact that, as a result of the vague news given by Voltz, Wagner finds himself in great embarrassment before the administrator of his financial affairs. 2 pp. 1/2.
