[SCIENCE AND MEDICINE] - Jean-Baptiste Charcot: The Explorer’s Bust in the Making - CHARCOT Jean-Baptiste - Autograph letter signed, dated “14. XII. 10” by the French physician and polar explorer. He participated to important expeditions to the Antarctic, during which he conducted investigations of high scientific value in geology, meteorology, magnetic conditions and biology. He died when his ship “Pourquoi-Pas ?” was wrecked in a storm off the coast of Iceland in 1936. His father was the neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot (1825–1893). Addressed to a sculptor concerning the realisation of his bust: “…Je serais tres honore d’avoir mon buste fait par vous et je tacherai de vous faciliter autant que possible le travail…”. 2 pp. On cardboard.
