[SCIENCE AND MEDICINE] - Julian Huxley on Tour: Science Between Lectures and Humanism - HUXLEY Julian - Autograph letter signed, dated “Nov 18th 1954” by the eminent English evolutionary biologist. He was a proponent of natural selection, and a leading figure in the mid-twentieth-century modern synthesis. He was secretary of the Zoological Society of London (1935–1942), the first director of UNESCO, a founding member of the World Wildlife Fund, the president of the British Eugenics Society (1959–1962), and the first president of the British Humanist Association. His brother was the famous novelist Aldous. Huxley addresses Sherman D. Wakefield of the American Humanist Association: “…I am so glad that you felt my lecture was valuable (…). Your organizational efforts on behalf of the A.H.A. must have appreciably helped toward the success of the evening at the Ethical Culture Building.
