[SCIENCE AND MEDICINE] - Le Verrier: The Mathematician Who Discovered Neptune Sends an Invitation - LE VERRIER Urbain - Letter signed with long autograph addition, dated “Paris le 13 Avril 1864” by the French astronomer and mathematician who specialized in celestial mechanics and is best known for predicting the existence and position of Neptune using only mathematics. Addressed to the French geologist and meteorologist, director of the Saint-Maur-des-Fosses observatory. Elles m’ont charge de vous prier de vouloir bien assister a cette reunion…”. At the end of the letter, Le Verrier adds by his hand: “…le temps necessaire pour m’assurer qu’on ne nous en trouverais pas a fond de reporter la conference de vendredi a lundi.
