[LITERATURE] - Manuscript Joy: A Lost Work by Marchese Caraccioli? - CARACCIOLI Louis-Antoine - “Dell’Allegria. Semper gauder St.P. Ep. Ad Thess.cs del Marchese Caraccioli Colonello al servigio del Re di Polonia, Elettor di Sassonia, tradotto dal francese. MDCCLXIV (1764)” Manuscript on paper in 4to (215x155 mm), contemporary brown calf, gilt spine with raised bands, tooled in gold in compartments, red edges. Pp. (2), X, 314, (2), in at least 30/40 leaves the ink has cut along script area. Text nicely manuscript by a single hand in clear cursive handwriting (easily legible) on 16 lines + head-title, in a square space ruled by pen. Condition: In at least 30/40 leaves the ink has burnt the paper along the square space and would need to be consolidated but the script is perfectly legible. In 1779 (so 15 years later), was edited in Naples a work entitled ”Il godimento di se stesso del marchese Caracciolo ... tradotto dal francese dal P. Fra Tommaso Ferrajolo”, by Caraccioli, Louis Antoine (1719-1803) so this manuscript may be an earlier draft of that work, as the content and the title are very similar (the pleasure). LOT NOT SUBJECT TO RETURN. (1)
