[HISTORY] - Aristotle Recast: Latin Rhetoric in 16th-Century Venice - ARISTOTELES (384 - 322 BC) - ARISTOTELES - Rhetoricorum libri III. Quos M. Antonius Maioragius vertebat. Venice: per Ioannem Patavinum, 1552. 8vo (155x102 mm), late 19th cent. half vellum with title on spine, boards covered with colored paper, a good clean copy (some worming at gutter on top of several leaves, not affecting text). Woodcut device on title and on last leaf here, printed in italic, ff. numb. 221, lacking last blank. First edition of the latin version of Aristotle's rhetoric, translated by the Milanese Marco Antonio Maioragio. Born in Milan (1514-1555), professor of rhetoric at the university, during the years of the French siege in Milan he moved to Ferrara together with other intellectuals.
