[HISTORY] - From the Nuremberg Chronicle: 8 Iconic Leaves - SCHEDEL Hartmann (1440 - 1514) - (Incunables) SCHEDEL – Liber Chronicarum, Nuremberg, Koberger, July 1493. Lot of 8 leaves of the first edition (in Latin), one sheet with a large two-thirds page woodcut ‘Hungaria’ (fol. CCLXVIII, slight tear without loss), one with a large almost page woodcut page of Pope Aeneas Pius II and Emperor Friderich III (trimmed on one side), the leaf CCLIIII (in period colouring, but cut in the lower third), depicting the sacrifice of the beatus Simon of Trent, whose disappearance and death were blamed on the city's Jewish community in a famous example of what would become known as the blood libel; and sheet CVII with 4 beautiful woodcuts of martyrdom of saints, etc. (Various defects, cropping, etc) LOT NOT SUBJECT TO RETURN (8 in the lot).
