First edition, posthumously published, of this rare treatise by the Bolognese mathematician and surveyor Angelo Maria Ceneri, describing the use of the Tavoletta Pretoriana, a geometric instrument for measuring lines, angles, and surfaces, and for altimetric calculations. The work also includes sections on the parallelogram of trigonometry and on Christoph Scheiner’s parallelogram for the projection and transfer of maps. A complete copy with all 13 plates, in perfect condition, remarkably fresh and clean. Bound in contemporary vellum, a fine and well-preserved example of early eighteenth-century Bolognese scientific printing. A scarce and fascinating witness to the practical mathematics and surveying techniques of early modern Italy.
