[HISTORY] - A Gilt Baroque Doctorate: Illuminated Law Diploma on Vellum (Rome, 1616) - PAOLO PASSERINI - Original manuscript doctorate's diploma in Civil and Canonic law, Illuminated manuscript on vellum. Rome, April 26, 1616. 4to (the leaf 220x 160mm.), contemporary, attractive brown calf baroque binding, completely and very elaborately gilt on boards, ‘à la fanfare’ style, with the decoration of boards divided in several sections, generally in very good condition (lacking as usual the ties to close the boards, and the seal). Altogether 8 leaves on vellum (of which last is blank, plus a blank paper flyleaf at each end), all of them manuscript in a neat and large, well-legible cursive handwriting, complete, 12 lines of text, written space on each page and text lines framed by a couple of lines in gold ink, text written in gold and brown ink, names in gold, invocation “IN DOMINE DOMINI AMEN” in gold capital letters at verso of first leaf (blank at recto), decorated initial and 4 lines in gold ink at beginning of the text, the names of the candidate and of the commissions in gold ink, at the end the signatures of the members of the commission and of the notary, with his ‘signum tabellionis. The present manuscript is sold with an export license from Italy.
