[Italy]. c.1750 Folio, Illustrated manuscript on paper, in Italian, altogether 33 leaves (19 for the text, plus 14 original blank leaves), followed by 9 finely executed large fold-out linedrawn drawings of fortifications, main text with single column of 27 lines of italic hand, some small spots and repair to lower corner of frontispiece, else good and clean condition, main text 280 by 185 mm., the maps folding out one or two times this size; contemporary limp parchment binding rebacked with a nicely drawn and coloured coat-of-arms on separate piece of parchment, laid on front board, two ties. This is a study of the fortified constructions of Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, a very famous military engineer of King Louis XIV, which can be found on the western, northern and eastern borders of France. The present manuscript is sold with an export license from Italy.
