Testamenti veteris biblia sacra sive libri canonici ... Latini recens ex Hebraeo facti ... Londini [i.e. London], excudebat Henricus Middletonus, impensis W.N. 4to (205x150 mm.), only the title-page leaf, with woodcut vignette. 3rd edition of the first complete Latin Bible printed in England (in 1580). Tremellius (1510-1580), an Italian Jewish convert, was invited to England by Thomas Cranmer in 1547 and was appointed Regius Professor of Hebrew at Cambridge in 1549. This translation was completed with the help of his son-in-law, Franciscus Junius the Elder (1545-1602), and was long considered the most accurate Latin rendering among the reformers both in England and on the continent.
