[LITERATURE] - DUMAS père Alexandre (1802 - 1870) - Against The Commission: Dumas On Camorra And Banditry In Italy - Autograph manuscript titled ”La Commission et le Brigandage, [1862]; 6 pp. in-4 on blue paper (the end is missing; crease marks). On the subject of the Camorra. An article published in Italian in Dumas’s Neapolitan newspaper, L'Indipendente, on December 27, 1862, under the title ”La Commissione sul Brigantaggio”. This is the third article Dumas has devoted to General La Marmora’s report on behalf of the Commission on Banditry. Here, he addresses one by one the nine points identified by the general as causes of banditry (we have here points 1 through 5; the end of the article, containing the last four points, is missing). Dumas does not agree with the general's analysis: ”...La Camorra est une institution complètement en dehors du brigandage. He then goes on to discuss the use of banditry by Bourbon supporters, the complicity of the clergy, the ignorance of the lower classes, and so on. Enclosed is the signed autograph manuscript of the conclusion to another article on banditry (1¼ pages, in-4 format, on 2 ff., pp. 11–2). •> This lot is located in and ships from the UK.
