[ART] - LAFOND Charles-Nicolas (1774 - 1835) - Championing Talent: Lafond Praises A Promising Young Actress - Beautiful autograph letter signed, dated “11 B.[rumaire]”, by the French neoclassical painter, who decorated (with Pierre-Luc-Charles Ciceri) the cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims in 1825. 1 p, in-8, autograph address and postmarks on 4th page. Lafond addresses the lawyer Benoît Duhamel (1741-1794), deputy for Bourg in the Assembly of the Third Estate in 1789, in praise of the young actress Maria Gros.: “Mademoiselle Gros mérite bien d'être encouragée. Il ne lui manque rien pour aller au grand ; elle a du physique, un bel organe, de l'abandon et beaucoup de sensibilité...”. This letter illustrates Lafond’s role not only as a painter but also as a supporter of emerging talent within the artistic and theatrical world. His praise reflects the importance of patronage and recommendation in early 19th-century cultural life. •> This lot is located in and ships from the UK.
