The correspondent's letter must certainly have contained some clarifications regarding Matisse's work as a painter: ”...C'est bien au Salon des Independants de 1910 octobre (au Grand Palais) que j'ai exposé le portrait de Madame Matisse...”. The painting he is referring to is ”Madame Matisse au châle de Manille”.
