[MUSIC] - ROSSINI Gioacchino (1792 - 1868) - Between Anger And Affection: Rossini Advises And Reproaches A Young Protégé - Autograph letter signed, dated “Bologna li 27 Giugno 1844” by the celebrated Italian opera composer. 1 p. in-4. Addressed to Pietro Barbaja in Naples. He describes himself as ”furente...e quasi idrofobo” for a ”cassa di maccheroni” send the clippings from the correspondent, who was certainly unable to pick them up due to issues with customs “…Dimmi pure se valendomi della Casa Rotschild potessi ottenere un permesso di sortita…”. The musician goes on to offer advice, like a caring father, to the young man who has confided his difficulties to him “…L'affezione che ho portato al buon padre tuo e che a te stesso porto mi danno diritto di dividere le tue pene e le tue gioie (…) Ho sentito essere tu in lite (…) non dar da mangiare ai Legali, fa piuttosto sacrifici e non far liti con il tuo sangue...[He certainly alludes to disagreements over the legacy left by his father Domenico]”. He ends the letter by asking: “…Quando ti mariti? Dammi questa notizia; ella mi farà sommo piacere, se però scegli bene….”. This letter belongs to Rossini’s later life, when he had largely withdrawn from composing operas but remained deeply involved in personal relationships and advisory roles. His tone, oscillating between irritation and affection, reveals a paternal attitude toward younger figures. •> This lot is located in and ships from the UK.
