[MUSIC] - ROSSINI Gioacchino (1792 - 1868) - Rossini’s Gourmet Spirit: A Letter Of Culinary Delights And Friendship - Autograph letter signed, dated “Bologna li 5 aprile 1851”, by the celebrated Italian opera composer. 1 p. in-4. Autograph address at the verso. Addressed to Mr. Lauda de la Ripa in Florence. From Bologna, where Rossini had returned to settle his affairs and transfer all his possessions to Florence, he writes this singular letter revealing the musician’s love for good cuisine: “...Due righe per accompagnare una sporta... contenente due spalle di S.Secondo colla relativa ricetta per cuocerle, un formaggio da me fabbricato nelle mie cascine, cinquanta foglie di Persicate che si mangiano al Dessert, e tre Panierini di Tortellini…”. He asks the correspondent to send one of those small baskets to “Mad. D'Ancona” and the other “al buon Serucci”. This charming letter reflects Rossini’s well-known passion for gastronomy, an interest that became central in his later years.
