[MUSIC] - ROSSINI Gioacchino (1792 - 1868) - After The Triumph: Rossini On The Success And Tensions Of The “Petite Messe Solennelle” - Autograph letter signed, dated “19 mars 1864” by the celebrated Italian opera composer. 1 p. in-4. The letter was written five days after the premiere of Rossini’s “Petite Messe Solennelle,” which took place on March 14 in Paris at the palace of Countess Pillet-Will. Attended by Meyerbeer, Thomas, Auber, and the Papal Nuncio, the “Petite Messe” was a huge success. Addressed to the composer Daniel Auber, he mentions two orchestras from the Paris Conservatory that had performed the “Messe” and a conflict that arose between them and Auber, who was the director of that conservatory. Written immediately after a major success, this letter captures Rossini’s continued engagement with musical life despite his semi-retirement.
