[MUSIC] - ROSSINI Gioacchino (1792 - 1868) - Artistic Friendship And Royal Ambition: Rossini Supports The Marchisio Sisters - Autograph letter signed, dated “Passy de Paris, 20 Sett. 1867” by the celebrated Italian opera composer. 1 p. in-4. Autograph address at the verso. Addressed to the Portuguese pianist and composer Daddi Joâo Guillerm (1814 – 1887). An interesting letter that reveals the warm friendship between Rossini and the two famous singing sisters, Barbara and Carlotta Marchisio, for whom the great composer had written his “Petite Messe Solennelle” (1864). Rossini asks his colleague to present them to the King of Portugal “…queste poche linee vi saranno presentate dalle Sig. Marchisio mie eccellenti amiche e artiste distintissime (…), esse meritano pel loro talento e carattere le vostre e mie sollicitudini…”. This letter reflects Rossini’s continued influence and his role as a mediator within the European musical scene.
